Seoul, Korea: The New Year’s Bell Ringing Ceremony at Bosingak Belfry is back for the first time in 3 years. This year’s theme of “Ringing of the heart, beginning of hope” will also be shown through a live broadcast at Gwanghwamun Square and Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).
The ringing ceremony will feature 14 civil representatives including Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul, and Cho Gue-sung, a member of the national soccer team who competed in the World Cup in Qatar and will be streamed live by popular YouTubers. Starting at 22:50, various events and performances are planned including gugak and popera performances to ring in the New Year.
The 330-inch screen will be set up at Gwanghwamun Square and DDP to show the bell-ringing ceremony. People going to Gwanghwamun Square can also enjoy Seoul Light Gwanghwa and Seoul Lantern Festival, whereas people going to DDP can watch Seoul Light DDP.
According to Seoul officials, the roads around the Bosingak Pavilion area will be blocked from 21:00 December 31, 2022, to 01:30 January 1, 2023. In addition, subway trains will not be making stops at Jonggak Station (Seoul Subway Line 1) from 23:00 December 31, 2022, to 01:00 January 1, 2023. To make the way back home easier, public transportation service hours will be extended until 02:00 on New Year’s Day.
